Short CV

Brief historic:

I am currently "Directeur de Recherches" CNRS, and located, since january 2007, at LIAFA in the University of Paris Denis Diderot. I received the Master degree in Mathematics from the University Joseph Fourier of Grenoble, France, in 1987, and the Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the ENS Lyon, France, in 1990. I am also Engineer from the ENSIMAG (Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Informatique et de Mathématiques Appliquées de Grenoble) where I got my diploma in 1987.

From Sept. 1991 to Aug. 1997, I was member of LIP at ENS-Lyon. Between Sept. 1997 and Dec. 2006, I was member of LRI at University Paris Sud. At LRI, I was leading the research group "Graph Theory and Fundamental Aspects of Communications" (GraFComm), and I was associated member of the INRIA project Grand Large on global parallel and distributed computing.

Research interests:

My main research interests include various fundamental aspects of Distributed Computing, mostly in the framework of "Network Computing". In this framework, I am particularly interested in routing and information dissemination problems, with application to Dynamic Networks, from the analysis of the Small World Phenomenon in social networks to the design of overlays for Peer-to-Peer systems.

I am also interested in abstract models for the design and analysis of distributed algorithms, including the recent model "distributed computing with advice", as well as the algorithmic for mobile entities (exploration, gathering, rendezvous, etc.).

See my publication list for more details.

Conference Steering Chairing and Membership:

Since July 2006, I am Steering Committee Chair of the series of International Colloquia on Structural Information and Communication Complexity (SIROCCO).

I am member of the Steering Committees of the following conference series:

  • International Symposium on Theoretical Aspects of Computer Science (STACS), since 2003.
  • ACM Symposium on Parallel Algorithms and Architectures (SPAA), since 2001.
  • International Symposium on Distributed Computing (DISC), since Sept. 2005.

Between 1997 and 2003, I was Steering Committee Chair of the series of bi-annual International Workshops on Interconnection Networks: 2003 Umeå (Sweden), 2001 Vall de Nuria (Spain), 1999 Schwerin (Germany), 1997 Prague (Tcheque Republic), 1991-93-95 Marseille (France).

Conference PC Chairing

I acted as Program Chair for:

  • 19th International Symposium on Distributed Computing (DISC '05);
  • 13th ACM Symposium on Parallel Algorithms and Architectures (SPAA '01);
  • 8th International Colloquium on Structural Information and Communication Complexity (SIROCCO '01);
  • 2nd European Conference on Parallel Computing (EuroPar '96).

Conference PC Membership

International, National, and Local responsabilities:

I am the Management Committee Chair of the European COST Action 295 DYNAMO on Dynamic Networks. This COST Action spans more than 15 countries over Europe, Canada, and Israel.

In France, I chaired, from 1997 to 2001, the national working group CNRS TAROT focusing on the algorithmic aspects of telecommunication systems. One of my main contributions in this chairing was the setting of the series of francophone conferences AlgoTel. Also, I chaired the "Action Specifique" from CNRS Dynamo on dynamic networks. The setting of COST Action 295 was the main achievement of this "Action Specifique".

At Orsay, I was the chair of the doctoral studies in Computer Science of the University Paris-Sud until August 2000. From 2003 to 2007, I was adjoin-director of the LRI Lab (Roughly 180 people). From 2005 to 2007, I was vice-president research of the Computer Science Department at U. Paris-Sud.

Student supervision:

I supervised ten PhD students (including those I am currently supervising), and more than a dozen of Master students. I am involved in the Master MPRI at University Paris 7.
