As a starter I can recommend you to have a look in the following free book written by Mrs Hélène Vivien: An introduction to cellular automata. You will probably find inside many useful definitions and good examples of some algorithms on Cellular Automata.
All the pictures and movies were made by different experimental softwares. Due to their exprimental nature, I do not want to distribute them as is, but of course you can ask me to have them; send-me an email. These softwares produce only still images, which have been assembled as movies using iMovie and Framed.
